The benefits of homeownership can be broken into two main categories: financial and non-financial (often referred to as emotional or social reasons.)<br \/>\n<span id=\"more-38956\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>For Americans approaching retirement age, one of the greatest benefits to homeownership is the added net worth they have been able to achieve simply by paying their mortgage!<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jchs.harvard.edu\/housing-americas-older-adults-2018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">focused on homeowners and renters<\/a> over the age of 65.
