During the housing bubble of the last decade, the homeownership rate soared to over sixty-nine percent. After the crash, that percentage continued to fall for the next ten years.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-39201\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>That led to speculation that homeownership was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/wonk\/wp\/2015\/06\/16\/why-the-homeownership-rate-will-keep-falling-and-falling-and-falling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">no longer seen<\/a> as a major component of the American Dream. That belief became so widespread that the term <em>\u201crenters\u2019 society\u201d<\/em> began to be used by some to define American consumers.<\/p>\n<p>However, the latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/housing\/hvs\/files\/currenthvspress.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">report<\/a> by the <em>Census Bureau<\/em> on homeownership shows that over the last two years, the percentage of homeowners has increased in each of the last eight quarters.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/files.simplifyingthemarket.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/12122529\/20190314-ENG-MEM.jpeg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-39204\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/files.simplifyingthemarket.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/12122529\/20190314-ENG-MEM.jpeg?resize=650%2C488&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Homeownership is a Cornerstone of the American Dream | Simplifying The Market\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Going forward\u2026<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>It appears the homeownership rate will continue to increase.<\/p>\n<p>The<em> 2019 Aspiring Home Buyers Profile<\/em> recently released by the <em>National Association of Realtors<\/em> revealed that 84% of non-owners want to own a home in the future.
