Not So Much. | Simplifying The Market\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;clear:both;max-width: 100%\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When people talk about homeownership and the American Dream, much of the conversation revolves around the financial benefits of owning a home. However, two recent studies show that the non-financial benefits might be even more valuable.<span id=\"more-40824\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In a recent survey, <em>Bank of America<\/em> asked homeowners: <em>\u201cDoes owning a home make you happier than renting?\u201d<\/em> 93% of the respondents answered yes, while only 7% said no. The survey also revealed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>More than 80% said they wouldn\u2019t go back to renting<\/li>\n<li>88% agreed that buying a home is the <em>\u201cbest decision they have ever made<\/em>\u201d<\/li>\n<li>79% believed owning a home has changed them for the better<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Those surveyed talked about the \u201cemotional equity\u201d that is built through homeownership.\u00a0The study says more than half of current homeowners define a home as a place to make memories, compared to 42% who view a home as a financial investment. Besides building wealth, the survey also showed that homeownership enhances quality of life:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>67% of current homeowners believed their relationships with family and loved ones have changed for the better since they bought a home<\/li>\n<li>78% are satisfied with the quality of their social life<\/li>\n<li>82% of homeowners said they were satisfied with the amount of time they spend on their hobbies and passions since purchasing a home<\/li>\n<li>75% of homeowners pursued new hobbies after buying a home<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Homeowners seem to be very happy.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Renters Tell a Different Story\u2026<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>According to the latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zillow.com\/research\/renter-regrets-24285\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><em>Zillow Housing Aspirations Report<\/em><\/a><em>,\u00a0<\/em>45% of renters regret renting rather than buying \u2014 more than five times the share of homeowners (8%) who regret buying instead of renting. Here are the four major reasons people regret renting, according to the report:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>52% regret not being able to build equity<\/li>\n<li>52% regret not being able to customize or improve their rentals<\/li>\n<li>50% regret that the rent is so high<\/li>\n<li>49% regret\u00a0that they lack private outdoor space<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These two studies prove that renting is just not the same as owning.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Bottom Line<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>There are both financial and non-financial benefits to homeownership.
