Would making a move to the suburbs make more sense for my family?<\/em> All of these questions are on the table for many Americans as we ride the wave of the current health crisis and consider evolving homeownership needs.<span id=\"more-42791\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/themreport.com\/daily-dose\/07-29-2020\/how-remote-working-is-impacting-homebuyer-sentiment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">George Ratiu<\/a>, <em>Senior Economist<\/em> for <em>realtor.com<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>&#8220;The ability to work remotely is expanding home shoppers&#8217; geographic options and driving their motivation to buy, even if it means a longer commute, at least in the short term\u2026Although it&#8217;s too early to tell what long-term impact the COVID-era of remote work will have on housing, it&#8217;s clear that the pandemic is shaping how people live and work under the same roof.&#8221;<\/em><em style=\"font-size: 16px\">\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Working remotely is definitely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realtor.com\/research\/home-buying-2020-remote-work-post-covid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">changing<\/a> how Americans spend their time at home, and also how they use their available square footage. Homeowners aren\u2019t just looking for a room for a home office, either. The desire to have a home gym, an updated kitchen, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simplifyingthemarket.com\/2020\/07\/30\/will-we-see-a-surge-of-homebuyers-moving-to-the-suburbs\/?a=375140-ca8522ad04357da9549c08492a932f70\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">more space<\/a> in general \u2013 indoor and outdoor \u2013 are all key factors motivating some buyers to change their home search parameters.<\/p>\n<p>A recent <em>realtor.com-HarrisX<\/em> survey <a href=\"https:\/\/themreport.com\/daily-dose\/07-29-2020\/how-remote-working-is-impacting-homebuyer-sentiment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">indicates<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cIn a June poll of 2,000 potential home shoppers who indicated plans to make a purchase in the next year, <strong>63% of those currently working from home stated their potential purchase was a result of their<\/strong> <strong>ability to work remotely<\/strong>, while nearly 40% [of] that number expected to purchase a home within four to six months and <strong>13% said changes related to pandemic fueled their interest in buying a new home.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Clearly, Americans are thinking differently about homeownership today, and through a new lens.
