With an obstacle like this, those searching for their dream homes may be pressing pause on their searches as we approach the end of the year, but that could be a big mistake for many hopeful house hunters. Here\u2019s why.<span id=\"more-43399\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to the most recent <a href=\"http:\/\/eyeonhousing.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/HOUSING-TRENDS-REPORT-Q320.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><em>Housing Trends Report<\/em><\/a> from the <em>National Association of Home Builders <\/em>(NAHB):<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cThe length of time spent searching for a home continues to grow.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The report indicates that <strong>62% of buyers now spend 3 months or more looking for a home, <\/strong>an increase from 58% one year ago<strong>.<\/strong> A primary cause for the delay is the heavy competition today\u2019s buyers face when making an offer on a home. Based on recent <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.nar.realtor\/sites\/default\/files\/documents\/2020-09-realtors-confidence-index-10-22-2020.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">data<\/a> from the <em>National Association of Realtors <\/em>(NAR), the average house in today\u2019s market receives <strong>3.4 offers<\/strong> before it\u2019s sold. This means for every buyer who purchases a home, there are on average two or three buyers who have to begin their search all over again.<\/p>\n<p>Compared to this time last year, the NAHB report shows that buyers are having more success finding homes in their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simplifyingthemarket.com\/2020\/09\/22\/the-cost-of-a-home-is-far-more-important-than-the-price\/?a=375140-ca8522ad04357da9549c08492a932f70\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">price<\/a> range. However, it also notes the percentage of buyers saying they\u2019re getting <strong>outbid when they make an offer has jumped from 15% to 27%.<\/strong> Buyers are indicating that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simplifyingthemarket.com\/2020\/10\/16\/how-to-prepare-for-a-bidding-war-infographic\/?a=375140-ca8522ad04357da9549c08492a932f70\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">bidding wars<\/a> are a major obstacle to finding their dream home <em>(See graph below):<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/files.simplifyingthemarket.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/19102834\/20201123-MEM-Eng-1.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43401\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/files.simplifyingthemarket.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/19102834\/20201123-MEM-Eng-1.jpg?resize=650%2C488&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Don\u2019t Let Buyer Competition Keep You from Purchasing a Home | Simplifying The Market\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" \/><\/a>If this is a challenge you\u2019re up against in your home search, you\u2019re not alone.
