This year, there\u2019s another type of buyer that\u2019s very active this holiday season \u2013\u00a0<strong>the homebuyer<\/strong><em>.<br \/>\n<\/em><span id=\"more-43546\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Each month,\u00a0<em>ShowingTime<\/em>\u00a0releases their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.showingtime.com\/showingtime-showing-index\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Showing Index<\/a> which tracks the average number of appointments received on active U.S. house listings. The most recent index notes:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cThe Showing Index reported a\u00a0<strong>60.9 percent<\/strong>\u00a0jump in nationwide showing traffic year over year in October, the <strong>sixth consecutive month<\/strong> to see an increase over last year.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Here\u2019s the breakdown of the latest activity by region of the country compared to this time last year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Northeast increased by 65.5%<\/li>\n<li>The West increased by 64.7%<\/li>\n<li>The Midwest increased by 55.7%<\/li>\n<li>The South increased by 54.7%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Why is the traffic so active?<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The health crisis definitely put homebuying plans on pause for many earlier this year. Buyers, however, are in the market and making moves well past the typical busy homebuying seasons of spring and summer.<\/p>\n<p>One of the main reasons buyer traffic has continued to soar in the second half of 2020 is how dramatically mortgage rates have fallen. According to\u00a0<em>Freddie Mac<\/em>, the average mortgage rate last December was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freddiemac.com\/pmms\/archive.html?year=2019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">3.72%<\/a>. Today, the rate is <strong>a full percentage point lower<\/strong><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Bottom Line<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>There are first-time, move-up, and move-down buyers actively looking for the home of their dreams this winter. If you\u2019re thinking of selling your house in 2021, you don\u2019t need to wait until the spring to do it.
